Collaborations
This is a special piece that was a collaboration with one of my advanced students, Andres Palacios. He makes amazing sculptures of dinosaurs, alligators, and haunting oddities. I asked him to make the alligator with its mouth open and curling around the inside of the large bowl like charger. I then made a hole in its belly so I could create a window of sorts into its stomach. I put a dolls arm in its mouth and more doll hands under a glass dome. Everything is layered upon leaves, flowers, worms, frogs, and a watery looking pool.
It's a dark piece named "Malvado", meaning evil or wicked. The alligator is eating a dolls arm while a large doll audience is watching in horror. It is inspired by the ceramic plates made by the 19th century style started by the French potter, Bernard Palissy.
