Ceramic Wall Art

These are just a few of the decorative wall pieces I have made in the last few years. I work with a stoneware clay body, Phoenix, made by Highwater clays in Asheville, NC. They are fired in an oxidation atmosphere, electric kiln to 2200F. They are all constructed using slabs of thin rolled out sheets of clay. I use a number of original plaster molds, sprigs, and stamps for the relief surface. They are glazed with a layering effect using 2 or more glazes. Leaves, flowers, floral motifs, wood grain, birds and animals are a major inspiration for most of my work especially my functional pieces. I am also inspired by folk art and a variety of objets'd art. My pieces often take on a whimsical nature.
